I'm a heretic, but I'll put some trust in the hands of the SV team at Ford and assume that the 3.5L engine will be just fine. And would also assume that the DCT that they will use should be a pretty impressive transmission (e.g. not an automatic, but an actual DCT in the same vein as PDK).
DCT's, when done correctly, are perfectly serviceable, functional, higher performing transmissions. And in the case of the high end PDK applications, has the ability to get to a true neutral state, thereby allowing all levels of control which are possible with a manual transmission.

As much as I like the ecoboost motors. I cant help to think that I was very dissappointed when it didnt come with a V8. And no manual. Very sad. Im sure itll run good. But whatever.
Like the GTR, its a very capable car. But meh.

I love the idea of the 3.5L. Itll be that much more embarrassing when it beats all comers and they realize their fancy V8 supercar got spanked by a six cylinder. Kinda like my Capri toasting a 454 Chevelle in the 1/8 mile drags. That red neck was not thrilled when he learned he got beat by a six cylinder.

Okay so my ideal engine would be the flat plane crank V8 but with a couple of turbos on it. Give it a proper manual and a dct for those that like that sort of thing. But then again I can't afford it. I am guessing the majority of the people that can afford it want it just like they are making it.

Easily the Ecoboost it was announced with. I am certain the entire car was built around that engine to keep it as compact as possible, meaning it would be more lightweight and aerodynamic (And probably not easy to service). It's also a proven engine unlike the 5.2L. It's been racing IMSA for two seasons, so it's been heavily field tested in some harsh environments.
I would love a high revving N/A V8 more then anyone, but imagine what it would take to get that to produce over 600HP (I'm going to assume it's in the upper 600's and Ford is just teasing us). Think about emissions testing on a 600HP+ N/A V8, if I remember correctly they had issues getting the 5.2L with 500HP+ to pass.
Imagine the enormous marketing opportunity using the Ecoboost engine to. This engine is just the perfect fit for the GT. I don't think the GT was ever about having a big V8, it was always about beating Ferrari and this one should do just that.

The V6 is good, but I'd put four turbochargers on it, with two of those electric, to eliminate any eventuality of turbo lag.
Optional hybrid system would be nice, to go after the P1 and Co.

I'm split, and here's why: If there weren't any outside factors, I'd rather have the GT with a bonkers twin turbo/supercharged V8. But there are outside factors, namely the fact that one of the primary points of this car is to go racing. And I love that. And if the best way to kick as much ass as possible while meeting the regulations of the sanctioning body is with a TTV6, well I'd rather have that 6 in there than an 8 and no race program.

I don't think the 5.2 will make the horsepower people would expect out of a car like this. I'm curious to see what the final figures for the 3.5L are, there are several Flex and SHO guys making 600+ at the wheels with new internals cams and turbos.
